Student Parking Citations & Appeals

Issued citations explain how a student may appeal: parkingticketappeals@westmont.edu

Appeals should be promptly submitted for consideration (within 10 days of the citation date), and should only be submitted if there is a valid basis for excusing the citation. Appeals are only handled via email and by the student; we do not offer appeals in person, over the phone, or from parents.

Students who park or operate a vehicle on campus, or in the vicinity of the college, must comply with all of °µÍø±¬ÁÏapp's parking, traffic and vehicle regulations. Most parking regulations are specified on the Transportation and Parking Regulations site.

When a student is cited for parking or operating a vehicle on campus without a valid permit on the vehicle, an appeal may be submitted by the student if there is a valid basis for excusing the citation.

Failure to display a valid parking permit will result in a $50 fine per incident, and multiple violations may result in additional sanctions including loss of current and/or future permit eligibility.

Examples of valid appeals:

  • "I was cited this morning, but obtained the decal before the end of the day and it is now on my vehicle."
  • "I received 2 citations for the same infraction on the same day--I believe one is a duplicate."

Examples of invalid appeals:

  • "It's not my fault because I didn't know about the parking permit requirement."
  • "I heard from others it was okay to have the car on campus."
  • "My professor/RA said it was okay to park in that lot/restricted area."
  • "I was providing transportation for other students to an important °µÍø±¬ÁÏapp event."
  • "The car was only in a restricted lot/space for a few minutes."
  • "I forgot to properly affix the decal."

Infractions refer to citations for parking in a restricted parking lot, a fac/staff lot or space, an ADA space without a current placard, EV spaces while not charging, etc. Appeals may be submitted by students for these citations if there is a valid basis for appeal.

Exception: No appeals are accepted for parking citations issued in the supplemental parking lot on Lou Dillon Lane (behind the Ocean View apartments). This parking lot is not °µÍø±¬ÁÏapp property and Campus Safety is required to monitor the lot each day as part of our contractual agreement with the owner of the lot. Only Ocean View residents are allowed to use this lot during specified hours. There is no latitude for parking violations in this private lot.

Campus Safety monitors vehicle use on and off-campus, and also enforces °µÍø±¬ÁÏapp's parking, traffic and vehicle regulations through citations and fines. Repeated violations may result in additional sanctions by Student Life. In addition to fines, multiple violators may forfeit their current and/or future parking permit privileges. In extreme cases, Student Life may impose sanctions up to and including suspension and expulsion.
