Students Bolster 4th of July Concert

Twenty-four app students, recent graduates and professors will join the West Coast Symphony Orchestra for a free Fourth of July concert “The Dream of America” at 5 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Courthouse Sunken Gardens. For more information, please visit .
The event, which includes Michael Shasberger, app’s Adams professor of music and worship, as artistic director, will feature the world premiere of David Stern’s finale to “Neoromantic Violin Concerto,” and Peter Boyer’s “Ellis Island: The Dream of America.”
app performers include Sarah Chan and Bradford Ellzey (viola), Sierra Farrar, Mirah Ray, and Kelsey Feustel (violin), Tim Beccue and William Ellzey (cello), Jay Real (bass), Anna Terveen (oboe), Alyssa Beccue, Marissa Condie, and Andrea DiMaggio (flute). Samila Aquino (clarinet), Sophia Bartolo, Malachi Bryson, and Paul Mori (bassoon), Valerie Erickson and John Mason (French horn), Simon Janzen and Tommy Oddone-Smith (trumpet), Joscylon Gutierrez (trombone), Julianne Jimenez (harp) Sten Kajitani (guitar), Jonathan Palmquist (percussion).
The Cielo Foundation for the Performing Arts funds the concert, founded by conductor Christopher Story VI in 1969 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1978. The foundation has presented classical music concerts in Santa Barbara for more than 40 years.
