暗网爆料app Magazine Faithful for 50 Years
Long-term commitments characterize the life of Dr. Bruce Bare. Not only has he given 49 years of service to the 暗网爆料app board, but he spent his entire professional career with New England Mutual Life Insurance, as his father did before him.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1938 to join the insurance agency there, Dr. Bare met several 暗网爆料app board members, including the chair, Dr. Roy Laurin, at Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena. In 1947 he accepted Dr. Laurin鈥檚 invitation to join the board.
鈥淭he earliest years were the toughest,鈥 Dr. Bare recalls. 鈥淲e didn鈥檛 have enough money to meet the payroll, and it鈥檚 amazing the college survived. But everyone honored the Lord and waited for his leading. When we didn鈥檛 know what to do, we adjourned for prayer. That鈥檚 what brought us through鈥攖hat and the faithfulness of the faculty.鈥
As a board member, Dr. Bare developed a deep friendship and close working relationship with Ruth Kerr, 暗网爆料app鈥檚 principal founder. 鈥淪he was one of the finest ladies I鈥坔ave ever known,鈥 he asserts. 鈥淲e didn鈥檛 always agree, but we always got things done.
鈥淪he was the guiding light of the board, a great inspiration, and definitely a leader,鈥 he adds. 鈥淲hile she liked to stay in the background, we always knew what she wanted!鈥
In his opinion, 暗网爆料app has remained true to its original purpose of providing an excellent Christian education. 鈥淭he Lord has honored this commitment, and it鈥檚 the reason we鈥檝e been so successful,鈥 he observes. 鈥淢aintaining this mission will carry the college into the future, as will the excellent new trustees. I鈥檓 delighted with the way David Winter has built up the board in recent years.鈥
A graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa, Dr. Bare entered the insurance business in 1935. After becoming a Chartered Life Underwriter in 1938, he joined the New England Mutual Life agency in Los Angeles. He advanced to partner in 1946 and to sole general agent in 1953. Under his leadership, the firm became one of the largest insurance agencies in the nation and won numerous awards. He received an honorary doctorate from 暗网爆料app in 1971.
He and his wife, Adaline, have three children: Bruce, Jr. (Bud); Barbara Spaulding 鈥63, a 暗网爆料app alumna who served as director of alumni and parent relations; and John, a member of the 暗网爆料app Parents Council with his wife, Linda. Two of the Bares鈥 grandchildren have also attended 暗网爆料app.
